36hrs in Dehradun

ree

After finishing the trek (in previous blog),we reached Dehradun late night. We woke up to find that most of our team members is leaving for their destination same day. Initially I had plans for Kedarnath and then Rishikesh but seeing the rush for dham, I booked ticket for home for very next day. So, I had one day to explore Dehradun.

while having breakfast,

ree

Komal suggested to visit Forest Research Institute (FRI) and

I was floored with it's architecture. such an impressive place

We visited the Tribe shop in the premises and had full on shopping spree. Komal had to start her return journey in afternoon, so I went off to complete my exploration.

I wanted to visit Tapovan temple and had booked ola as per google map. on reaching there, I found that the location saying tapovan temple is ashram tapovan. on enquiring and showing the pics in google, he told that there's no such place nearby and the pic is misleading. He was a kind person, seeming me desolate, he informed that there's a shiv mandir in the hilltop which I can visit

ree

Here I'm, trekking toward unknown. The road to this temple was beautiful, lined with trees and small forest. I found few people practicing runs, maybe for some events

ree

It is old temple, the main shivling seemed powerful and ancient. It is said that dronacharya prayed here, which seemed believable on seeing the tall trees and the uphill road

ree

it was long quiet route, since I had walked to this place solo without seeing much of population, I thought its better to go downhill before dark. Downside of travelling solo, even if you want to explore, safety always come first

ree

My lunch spot, Badmaash Kababi

ree

smacking food

ree

have the galauti kabab rolls

ree

I was walking astray, not exactly, was walking towards ellora for that melting toffee and bal mithai from kumar's. along the way, had drinks break

ree

A2fter buying Ellora's toffee (the new shop was burned down due to fire incident) and Bal mithai from Kumar's, I started off for Dinner place. Jack was the only one who was in Dehradun that day.

ree

Dinner. This is first time I was seeing someone ordering only veg salad for dinner and when it arrived( the one with lemon on top), I couldn't stop howling with laughter. Mine was none better, the coleslaw chicken salad was just cabbage with ketchup. After dinner, we called it day and went our ways

ree

Wrapping up and Leaving for Airport

ree

breakfast in Chetan swadisht kachori. the old gentleman who was feeding me made sure I had my fill, almost like grandmother

ree

Tasty drink from Thailand. Wonderful taste

ree

Day well spent. FRI might sound boring but it's striking place which slowly pique your interest once you start exploring. like aged wine. I wish every state have such institutes, it would be GEM for school or college students studying these topics.

Transportation from Dehradun to Jolly airport would cost almost Rs1000. Ola or uber auto would negotiate offline, it's not worth it. simply book car. There's Amul stall and one snack store in airport, take your own stuff.

Try to explore place on foot. It is fun to get lost sometimes, to panic among the desolate narrow roads, relief to see the known and assurance that all is well

ree

See you guys in next adventure
